Seniors are a large portion of the population in Antigonish and Pictou Counties. General information and services specific to the age group of 55+ is included in this section.

Information:

Health and Safety:

  • Pictou County Home Health Care Co-operative provides home care and related services for seniors.
  • Seniors Safety Program provided through the Antigonish Crime Prevention organizations to help seniors to live safe, healthy and independent lives.
  • Victorian Order of Nurses offers home care, personal support and community services to help people become healthy and stay that way.
  • Continuing Care provides care outside of the hospital to people who need it in their own home; this can be done on a short or long term basis.
  • Disability Supports Program: If you are living with a mental illness or physical disability, you can receive support through this program for community-based, residential and vocational/day programs.

Social activities:

  • Pictou County Seniors Festival is a weekend of entertainment and activities held during August in the Trenton area.
