In Canada, laws protect a person's basic rights and freedom. When issues with the law take place, the court system is in place to establish the law and decide on appropriate actions. The Nova Scotia Department of Justice is responsible for the law and court system. When you have a legal problem, you can apply for Legal Aid to help with family law, criminal law or social justice.
*For detailed listings of the services available through court and legal aid contact/visit 211 Nova Scotia and search "Court Services" or "Legal Aid".
