About Family:

The province of Nova Scotia provides many community based services and programs for children, youth & family. Children, youth, and their parents can always use some support. Pictou County Partners is a database of agencies for children and youth.

Information, counselling and educational programs are provided by Education & Early Childhood Development and Family Service of Eastern Nova Scotia.

Young Children and Parents:

  • The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library runs regular programs for young children throughout their branches, such as Pre-school storytime ABC's for Babies (0-18 months) and Toddler Time. See their Events calendar for the times and locations.
  • Educational programs for young children (ages 0-6) and their parents are available through Kids First.

Children with disabilities:

If you have a child between the ages of 0-5 who is at risk or has been diagnosed with a development delay, Nova Scotia Early Childhood Development Intervention Services may be able to provide information, support, and services. Please visit their individual websites to find locations, contact information and specifics about programs.

Youth:

  • Programs: For a full list of programs, search "Youth programming" at 211 Nova Scotia.
  • Outside of school programs for youth are provided by 4-H, to help youth learn life skills. There are clubs in a variety of communities in Antigonish and Pictou County.
  • Support: Organizations to help provide support for youth are the Kid's Help Phone, and Roots for Youth.

Young Adult:

Pulse Pictou County is "a group to unite and connect the young working age people in Pictou County. We aim to attract and retain a growing population of our demographic, and to make the area a more engaging place for young people to live and contribute." "We host events, ranging from many activities like trail building to yoga, curling to hiking, and our anchor event, Pulse trivia night."
