The Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library was pleased to welcome Norene Smiley as the 2008-09 Writer in Residence. Norene brings to the residency a wealth of experience in creative writing, publishing and literacy initiatives.
Smiley was the fifth PARL Writer in Residence and began her tenure on Monday, October 6th, 2008. Between October and March 2009 she delivered creative writing workshops for adults and children, and provided one-on-one mentorship with aspiring local writers, including members of the Pictou County Writers' Group and the Antigonish Library Writing Group. During this time Smiley was also given time to focus on her writing projects.
Norene Smiley is a writer, artist, and filmmaker. She has worked as an editor, bookseller, teacher and event organize. In addition, she is involved with many arts and writing organizations, such as Read by the Sea. She is the author of the children's book, The Stripy Cat.
