About 1800, L300 was granted for its improvement and thereafter, from time to time
till 1808 other monies were voted. From then till the opening of the new level
road via North River, it was probably in a fairly passable condition, at least
for those on foot, and for animals.*
*About 1828, Lieut.
Gov. Sir James Kempt introduced into the province a system of level roads.
It was probably about that time, or shortly after, that the present New Truro
Road via North River was run out and completed.
