All About the Venue

Accessibility by Design: The Culture Hub has accessible entrances & exits, accessible washrooms, and other public spaces. Features include ramps, power door openers, a hearing loop, mobility devices to borrow, and more. 

Location: This year’s Conference will be held at the deCoste Culture Hub, 99 Water Street, Pictou. The Culture Hub is home to the Murray Family Public Library (Pictou Branch), deCoste Performing Arts Theatre, and Creative Pictou County Studio Space.

Entrances: There are two main entrances to the Library. 

• The front entrance on Water Street will lead you directly to the library circulation desk (shared with the deCoste Theatre box office). 
• If you enter via the rear entrance in the Harbourside parking lot, it’s a longer walk with several ramps/stairs, but still a straight path up to Circulation. 

Parking: Street parking in Pictou is free, and the Culture Hub has two free parking lots: one behind the building (Harbourside, on the waterfront), and one on the right side of the building. An electric vehicle charging station is also available onsite.

Washrooms: All washrooms in the Pictou Library are single-occupancy & all-gender. Multi-stall, gender-segregated washroom facilities are available elsewhere in the Hub.

Conference Amenities

ASL Interpreters Available – ASL interpretation will be available for several sessions on Saturday, September 19th.

Assistive Listening Supports – A Hearing Loop is available in the Theatre Auditorium and at the Circulation Desk. Assistive Listening headsets are also available.

• No Telecoil? No problem! If you would like to access the hearing loop but do not have a hearing device with a telecoil, we have several hearing loop receivers with headphones available for attendees.
• How to Borrow a Hearing Assist Device: Head to the Registration Desk or contact Jes (our Accessibility Coordinator) to borrow an assistive hearing device, or to learn more!

Transportation & Transit Service – Complimentary taxi transit will be available for conference attendees, travelling from local accommodations to the venue (Around Pictou town & to Pictou Lodge). Get your Conference Taxi Pass to cover the fare!

• To request a Taxi Pass, ask at the Registration Desk or contact us to arrange things.

Quiet Space – A quiet, sensory-friendly space will be available for attendees to take a break. This space will have dimmer lighting, quiet activities, sensory & fidget toys available, and a calmer vibe.

Mobility Aids – A limited number of mobility aids are available to borrow, including a manual wheelchair and walker.

Hi there! I’m Jes Davey (he/him), the branch manager at Murray Family Public Library (Pictou) and Accessibility Coordinator for NSLA Conference 2026.

I’m here to provide accessibility support & accommodations to all attendees, vendors, presenters, and staff– before and during the Conference.
